Calendar 2017

What's happening in 2017

There is always lots to do on Mull no matter what your interests.  As well as the regular activities - see the 'Links' tab for more of these - there are always special events occuring throughout the year.  Some of these are listed below but this is not an exhaustive list.  However this may give you a flavour of what is on offer.

Mull Music Festival:  21st -23rd April

The music festival is a weekend of Scottish music featuring folk-rock bands, fiddle, accordion, dance and ceilidh bands. It usually takes place over the last full weekend in April, in several hotel and bar venues in Tobermory. The events aren't ticketted, and most are very crowded!

Mendelssohn on Mull: 2nd - 7th July

Mendelssohn on Mull provides young professional musicians with opportunities to develop their practical music skills in a place of outstanding natural beauty.  Thease musicians are tutored by veteran professional musicians and give performances during the week in various venues throughout the island - all free of charge.  For more information see: www.mendelssohnonmull.com

Mull Highland Games:   20th July

Highland Games are a very popular traditional summer event all over the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, but few can compare to the setting on Mull.  The site overlooks the Sound of Mull with picturesque views towards Morvern and Ardnamurchan.  All the usual activities are there with lots of running, jumping and throwing. For those of a less sporty disposition there is always the Beer Tent!

West Highland Yacht Week: 29th July - 4th August

West Highland Yachting Week is one of those rare regattas that moves from centre to centre during the event. This creates enormous logistical difficulties for the organisers, but provides an ever-changing scene, both ashore and afloat, for competitors.  Boats are in Tobermory 2nd & 3rd July.

Isle of Mull Half Marathon and 10K and Junior Races:   6th August

This challenging and fun race caters for all levels of runner - from serious athlete, to those looking for a new challenge. For more information, visit www.mullrunners.com

Isle of Mull Car Rally:  13th -15th October

In October, Mull is taken over by rally drivers from all over Britain, as well as local drivers from Mull, taking part in races on Mull’s normal roads in several stages and on several different courses. Most of this is done in the dark and at alarming speeds!  For more information, visit mullrally.org

 Christmas and New Year

Although Mull does not shut down over Christmas and New Year we will be indulging in more festive events.  The annual NOMADS Panto will be on again and the lights will be on in Tobermory making it all look very cheerful.

There will be the usual meeting at the Clock Tower in Tobermory on 31st December to bring in the new year.  This of course will have the regular fireworks display at midnight, the scale of which puts many other bigger towns and cities to shame.
